Title Wedding Receptions - Groom's Cakes
Category Wedding Cakes
Article Do you know about groom’s cakes? Some new wedding planners and many people have not heard of them. In fact, in the past brides and grooms would ask me what they are. But currently, with all of the shows on television featuring cake designers, more and more couples are familiar with them and want them at their wedding receptions.

The groom’s cake originates from a tradition in the American South, a way to give the groom something on a day that essentially was all about the bride. The cake was a fruit cake or chocolate cake so it offered a different taste from the traditionally white wedding cake. The legend is that a single woman attending a wedding should go home with a piece of groom’s cake and put it under her pillow. When she slept, she would dream of her future husband.

Today, many brides order a cake and surprise the groom with it at their rehearsal dinner or wedding reception. The cake no longer has to be a fruit cake or chocolate cake, it should be in the groom’s favorite flavor. The cake can reflect the groom’s hobby, be the logo of his favorite sport’s team or alma mater, or feature his pet. It can be as simple as a regular layer cake with a design on top or actually sculpted in the shape of the chosen design.

Instead of serving it at the rehearsal dinner or reception, the cake can be sliced, put in small boxes with the couple’s name or monogram, and given out as favors so the guests can eat them later.
